I have successfully added an Add to Cart and donation button. The donation one works correctly. However, the add to cart gives me an error which says “Things don’t appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later.”
I would not recommend Cart66. First, they state on their site that they are not currently accepting new accounts, and second, we’ve had a number of issues (cart links breaking with no explanation, not slurping our site when we make updates) and cannot get a response from support (via their email or social media platforms). We recently didn’t receive the notifications of recurring payments processing and thought our clients weren’t charged. 8. Complementary products – offer complementary products, which is needed to be done to increase your average sale or 'transaction value.' Yet remember, to maximize the result the products must be really complementary, not the ones that remain unsold in your store. A better way is to offer a discount for the complementary product, and one more important point – the price for the complementary products should be less than 50% of the main product price. Thus, the customers will feel comfortable to spend an extra sum of money to improve their experience with the main product. Plus regarding that you offer a complementary product discount – the total sum will not therefore much exceed the amount of money a client was intended to spend.
This is a plus, on the one hand, because you don’t have to worry about increased hosting costs. On the other hand, you don’t really own the code of your store, and you have to run it according to CoreCommerce’s terms of service.
Most other plans remove these limitations. However, I do recommend at least checking out the features of each plan carefully before going with one.
Why did I say it is more advanced than the physical cart in a brick-and-mortar shop? Well, besides the feature of add and remove goods (which can also be done in physical carts), things can be organized systematically in a list with all related information including price, AND the total price, which means customers don’t have to add up by themselves. In short, it is a preparing place for all of the shoppers’ potentially-buying products. Customers can decide whether to really purchase afterward or not.
@Milob, Transactions in test mode should also get recorded. It’s possible that your site is not receiving any notification from PayPal. Do you have the debug option enabled in the plugin?
